PERPETUAL CLOAKING: LA VERDAD(The Truth

Perpetuating the disease of mendacity, Daví desires no change to his circumstances. He must stymie Xavier’s departure. For Xavier is a truth that Daví misunderstands. Davi’s unawareness of his legitimate bisexuality; coupled with his feelings for Xavier, assaults his world. A world of Latino machismo indicative of a man’s worth. Helena, as Davi’s fiancé, conforms to the expectations in that world. However, we all respond differently to remedies. Xavier is Xavier. His petulance is a result of long term falsehood and duplicity. Martín misgivings woven with being bull-headed has catastrophic results. He realizes “preserving the hoax” is not a remedy. Notwithstanding the hurt, hindering & suppression; love persists.

Nicodemus & Jeb

It is 1949. The small town of Azalea, between the villages of Crescent & Valona, Georgia. A town which boasts some of the healthiest crops of rice in the Southeast USA. Georgia, a state known for their sweet juicy peaches; where indigo fields once grew a-plenty & Cotton was King. The Black Code ‘crops’ produced trees of fruit in a constant state of blooming; this is the backdrop for an impossible and insurmountable love. Tempered & hammered with religion, traditions, ignorance and laws; a love between two men is mired in the coastal marshes of Georgia. Their love story is inextricably linked to the time and place. To want love, to have it. Then, to lose it. What a great sin. With the uncertainty of life for colored people; the criminal nature of their intimate friendship, this love warrants imprisonment or more. Jeb was certain. In spite of everything, He was not going to lose Nicodemus. “Rushing waters can not quench love; rivers can not wash it away. If someone gave all his estate in exchange for love. He would be laughed to utter shame.” Solomon 8:6-7
